As a small kid, I played hide and seek with my dad. I would dive under the covers, thinking that he couldn't see me if I couldn’t see him.
All the while the tiny bundle with two wriggling feet sticking out was a dead giveaway.
Adam and Eve played a similar game with their Father. Trembling behind a leafy bush, their silliness provoked one of the most significant questions you’ll ever answer…
“Adam, where are you” Genesis 3:9
Why is it important?
Because there are two coordinates you need to get to your desired destination.
First, you need to plug in where you want to go.
Left to the waves your boat will be carried in whatever direction the wind blows. Lots of folks live this way, and end up marooned in a life they never wanted!
But knowing where you want to arrive is not enough.
The world is full of dreamers salivating over the idea that life’s lottery will answer their deepest desires, but who never make any real moves in the direction they want to go.
The question they don’t want to face is, “Where am I now?”
It’s a question that is often exposing (and sometimes embarrassing). You’ll be tempted to run for the fig leaves.
But if you have the courage to drill down into the reasons you are stuck and locate yourself with brutal honesty, you’ll have the beginnings of a map.
I had my own, “Adam, where are you?” moment early this year.
I’ll share tomorrow how the conversation with Papa played out…
