So last time we were together, I spoke about an amazing genealogy, a family tree from Genesis chapter five. If you’ve not looked at our adventure adventures Day 17, jump back there. I’m sure you will be blessed by what we share. There just one of the beautiful gems that we find nestled in the pages of Scripture.

But today I wanted again to think about this family tree. And I just wanted to remind you of your genealogical background. I want to remind you of your rich, creative risktaking heritage. And you do have a rich, creative heritage. Right the way down your family line, brimming, bubbling, mind blowing creative courage flows like a mighty river.

And it all began with Adam. Believe it or not, we’re not just talking a few generations. We’re taking this right back to the garden. And absolutely, he messed things up in a way he couldn’t get messed up in a bigger way. But here we are.

Even atomic ambitions and fallen genius can perform remarkable feats. I mean, much like the men who built the tower up to heaven, the imaginations of the babling billionaires right now, like building Rockets shooting out the space, looking to populate the planets, proudly scaling the heavens as they build their towers. It’s nothing short of amazing what man’s imagination can produce, what man’s creativity can produce even when it is devoid of any rootedness in faith in the true and the living God. But there is honestly a world far beyond this world.

And it is quite honestly, far more impressive even than the feats that we see being played out on the world stage right now.

Creatively. Abraham, I’m thinking, as one of the people in your family line sought a city so magnificent that all the kingdoms of this world paled in comparison. Joseph dreamed of a promise so much greater than the accolades of Earth. It’s written that he instructed that his bones be carried over into the promised land, all that he had. Of all the splendour that was at his feet, he still yearned for another country.

Jacob dreamed a dream that stretched beyond any space station, a ladder that reached beyond the planets. Andrew, Peter, James and John willingly left a profitable earthbound and seaworthy business for a fishing trip that reached to the very corners of the populated planet. And beyond. Thinking of Paul, he is a guy with the most promising seminary career. You can imagine a religious reputation that’s off the scales.

And yet he realised that there was a road beyond Damascus and there would bring rewards that made all the crowns of man look like dung in comparison. Seriously, you are in good company. Your heritage is one of the most incredible, the most remarkable, the most imaginative, the most creative, the most sold out, the most otherworldly you could ever conceive. Your family line is one of risk takers, eternal hopers, endless dreamers. It’s a line of no regrets and boundless belief in a better world.

And at the head of the charge, the author and the finisher of our faith. The man who will pen the final flourish to your story and usher you into a creative life. So vibrant, so colourful, so beyond human belief. It will take an eternity to explore Jesus the King of your heart. The man that the Bible says is one of your brethren.

The manger boy, the maker of all his story and your story are forever entwined. You are one spirit with him and his spirit is at work in you. I believe this coming year is going to be one in which you will see magnificent results for your creative endeavours and by God’s Grace, my prayer is that you will prosper in all that you put your hand to.
