You have a war map in your hand called the Bible. Emblazoned on its pages is every tool you need to live a life of victory and freedom.
The covenant cut is laid bare on its pages, and every blood bought promise bears your name.
Though this may sound stunning, and far-fetched, it is true.
The covenant brought you into the household of the Covenant maker.
You did not make a flimsy contract with mere men, prone to change and chance. Your agreements were not scrawled in disappearing ink, or carved in a contact made to be broken.
The covenant you were cut into was made with Almighty God. The words of the covenant are recorded forever in a book that will remain far beyond the wrapping up of this age and world. So sure are its promises, they will never pass away.
Beloved, Jesus declared in no uncertain terms.
“Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.” (Luke 21:33 KJV)
Mountains will crumble before the promises that are yours will even feel the breeze.
This glorious gospel upon which you stand, these eternal promises that fuel your petitions, this book of books – all have been opened wide for your hand to embrace.
And prayer, dear friend, is the place where they are possessed.
Praying the Word of God from your lips, arising from a heart that has chewed and been nourished by them, is powerful.
Declarations taken from the pages of Scripture carry the authority of the hand that wrote them.
Scripture tells us that Jesus is the “high priest of our confession” (Hebrews 3:1).
The word used for “confession” here literally means, “to say the same thing as” or “to speak after”.
Do you think Jesus will act as advocate for words that destroy you? For negative accusations you throw at yourself? Untruths that undermine your worth?
No.
That is why He instructs us in the ways of the Covenant; say the same thing as I do, and I will acts as your advocate bringing those confessions to the Father on your behalf.
Speak after me. See what I have said, and say it yourself. Make it your own.
Moreover, He did not leave us alone to sieve the promises out. The glorious Holy Ghost was commissioned post-ascension to take up residence in your heart, and “bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (John 14:26 KJV)
The God of Heaven, now living in your heart, doesn’t bring this to mind so you can win on Bible quiz night. He brings them to your remembrance in the heart of the battle so your tongue will be a tow-edged sword, slicing through the lies and slaying Satan’s hordes.
God’s word is unstoppable.
It is unbeatable.
This Book that you hold in your hand, and hide in your heart, is the most powerful, most enduring, most essential thing in all of life.
When did you last crack its spine and drink of its delights?
When was the last time its nectar was on your lips dripping out in praise?
When was the last time you held its fiery blade in your hand and used your mouth to swing the sword?
