Creativity is not a luxury. Not some frivolous indulgence.
Making things of beauty is essential for your well-being.
As a maker, your creative output is no different from the vital signs tracking your heartbeat and breathing. If you check your pulse and it’s weak or inconsistent, you’d be worried. You’d know something is not working as it should.
So it is with our creative life. We should always have some kind of creative project beating in the background. Note, I don’t necessarily mean money-making projects. Just making. Doing things that feed your soul with the food that consumption can never satisfy.
Of course, we all need to consume. That too is part of a healthy soul. This week we’ve been talking about reading as a perfect example.
But consumption is not the major factor that contributes to your creative well-being.
Outflow
The Dead Sea is dead for one reason. It has inflow but no out.
If there’s no outlet, no way to let the waters spill out, your soul will suffer.
Your spirit is designed to overflow.
As Jesus said,
“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”(John 7:38 KJV)
Interestingly, the word “Entrepreneur” is derived from two Latin words; “Entre” – “Swim out” and “Prendes” – “Grasp or grab hold of.”
Are you ready to step into the river, swim out to the depths, and grab hold of unseen opportunities?
To carve out conduits through which your creativity can be expressed.
For me, this newsletter is my daily delivery to the world. I write books, create images, make courses and craft resources to help other people in their walk with God and their creative journey.
I do these because I want to, not because I have to. By God’s grace, it has also spawned a business, but I was writing, teaching, and creating long before I ever made a penny. Consistency pays off, but it begins with committing yourself to create something, uncoupled from outcomes.
That’s one important reason I designed the Creator’s Highway. It offers a creative reset for Christian creators. A safe space to explore your creative nature in a God-centered way.
You have so much to offer the world. Don’t let it lie dormant.
