Friends of our family had a beautiful converted barn in the East of England. It was a long drive from our home, but when they offered us a peaceful week away we grabbed it with both hands.
The problem was that their holiday home was so rural our GPS got more and more confused the closer we got to the destination, and we ended up being led to the end of a dirt track in a farmer’s field!
My trust in that TomTom spouting instructions was absolute until I wound up in the middle of nowhere.
Life can be like that sometimes. A host of voices babbling, “Turn left, turn right, do a U-turn, follow me, not that way this way, do the hokey-cokey, at the next junction turn off your engine and cry”.
To navigate life, we need something more trustworthy.
Thankfully, we have a map and compass that never fails. It’s called the Bible.
Not just words on a page, however, the living Word speaking within us.
“…thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.” (Isaiah 30:21 KJV)
Last week I spoke about being located.
About how to get where you want to be, you have to first evaluate where you are.
I call it the “Adam, where are you?” question.
But once you have those coordinates, your destination and your current location, what next?
You need directions.
The path to peace and prosperity is not one you plug into Google maps and blindly follow. Instead, you have to plug your heart into the Word and allow the Holy Spirit to lead.
There are numerous ways He will do this, and we’ll cover some of them this week, but they will always root back to the written Word of God.
At every junction, there will be a specific word, undergirded with an “it is written”.
My encouragement to you today is simply this.
When you come to the Word don’t do so at a distance. Lean your ear with expectancy that God will speak. That the written Word will be quickened to your spirit and speak clearly to your circumstances, “This is the way, walk ye in it.”
