“Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands…” (1 Thessalonians 4:11 NIV)
A quiet life, untroubled and undisturbed, is the destination plugged into my internal HGPS (Holy Ghost Positioning System).
And His the first direction?
“Mind your own business”
That’s what we’ll explore this week.
I think it will resonate.
Praying this morning along these lines, the Holy Ghost showed me an unexpected picture.
I saw a chessboard.
God then swept all of the pieces from the board, leaving one solitary King.

All of the complexity and confusion was cleared from the board, and the number of moves I could make was diminished to just a handful.
With the King, the only move I can make is the next step.
One square.
It is not complicated or confusing. It does not require that I evaluate a thousand options.

I’m reminded of Jesus words:
“Therefore, stop worrying, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, With what shall we clothe ourselves? For all these things the pagan Gentiles are diligently seeking. For your heavenly Father knows that you are in constant need of all these things. But be seeking first the kingdom and His righteousness, and these things, all of them, shall be added to you. Therefore, do not begin to worry about tomorrow, for the next day will take care of its own interests.” (Matthew 6:25 WUEST-NT)
Jesus first living starts right here, with only the King on the board.
To “mind my own business” means I’m not evaluating everyone else’s moves, or concocting my next elaborate plan of attack.
I’m simply listening carefully for my next step.
One day at time.
