Taking action is the only way to learn what really works.
That does not mean you are the cornerstone of your success, or that more action taking will automatically lead to more results. What it does mean is that motion puts things in motion to move towards the results you dream of. You learn far more by doing than by watching, reading or listening.
Best case scenario: Do all four, read, listen, watch, do.
But if you have to lean into percentages, weigh toward the doing rather than perpetual learning, thinking or planning.
Taking Massive Mini Action
Actions do not to need to be massive.
The biggest thing is the actual decision to make a move. That’s where the massive implications play out. Most often the actions themselves are quite obvious and natural. They may not be easy, but they are natural, not alien.
I’m sure you have heard the favourite saying in entrepreneurial circles, “take massive action.” Usually what it means is “take a massive chunk out of your bank account and buy my course, coaching, or service.” But most of the time, and this coming from someone who has spent over $30,000 on training and coaching this year alone, what we need is not more training, it’s doing the things we have already trained in.
Small Daily Actions
In reality, it’s the small daily actions that add up over time to something significant. Hone in on your genius, clothe it with Kingdom purpose (which at the end of the day is simply to help, build and champion people’s prosperity of soul), and take consistent steps to build frameworks that serve an audience.
But this does take discipline.
Some people talk about paying the price.
But you don’t have to pay the price. You GET to the price. It’s a privilege we have as free people, living in a culture and society that champions enterprise.
At the end of the day, you get the privilege and opportunity to ENJOY the price of entrepreneurial endeavours, because the benefits of explosive growth or breakthrough come only through experiment. You get to try. You get to have a go. You get to share, and pivot, and build, and learn, and grow. It’s not easy, but it’s a great deal easier than dying a slow death of boredom and discouragement.
I certainly don’t want to be the sheepish guy standing in line with a muddy talent he just dug up from the hole he hid it in (Matthew 25:14–30 ).
Pursuing Hope
You have dreams, ideas, hopes, ambitions. It may take time, even years, to realise some of them, but they are worth pursuing.
If nothing else, choose one project to take on board this year, and roll your passion and energy into it without making it an idol. Don’t look to it as your saviour or provider. Come to it as the fruit of your soul, your gift to the world. Let it flow from the generosity of your heart with the intent to help, bless, build or entertain other people.
It can be anything. A blog. A book. A course. A business.
It doesn’t have to consume you, but do prioritise it in the same way you would prioritise exercising your body.
And as with exercise, your competition is not the ripped chick in the Lycra hot pants, or the Vaseline smothered he-man in the gym – it’s YOU, dude! You are the only one standing in the way of those Lycra pants snugging your hips. Only joking, I don’t look good in Lycra anyways!
The competition is the doppelgänger on the inside of your head who keeps telling you it’s not worth it, it won’t work, and who would ever listen. I can tell you one thing for certain. If you don’t start doing it the number of lives improved and changed by your generous sharing of what’s currently in your heart will be no one!
And if you do?
I have no guarantees, but I can promise that in choosing to move and make something you open up possibilities that previously never existed. This in one sense is the very definition of faith. Creating something from nothing. Taking the unseen and making it tangible.
This creative project is for the health of your soul. It is the exercising of your creative muscles, the extending of yourself beyond the bounds of your immediate circle. It reaches over the borders and brings your worth to the world in whatever way works best for you.
Ask the Holy Ghost right now what project He would like to partner in with this year, and see what He says.
Then start to watch the promise of John unfold around you:
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3 John 1:2
