God gives the power to get and create wealth.

This was a promise I had to stand on in one of the most discouraging and desperate times of my life.

Sometimes our greatest breakthroughs are preceded by our greatest breakings.

Deuteronomy 8:18 reads:

“But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.” (Deuteronomy 8:18 KJV)

With this foundation laid to undergird it:

“Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end; And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.” (Deuteronomy 8:16–17 KJV)

Times of divine provision during desperation are seasons we abundantly comprehend our own incapacity. Times of proving, where the Lord allows our character to be chiselled by circumstance.

But Papa always has one thing in mind.

“…to do thee good at thy latter end.”

And here inside this magnificent 8:18 promise, there’s a lot to unpack.

“thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant…”

This power to create wealth for me meant three distinct things, ones that I believe can help you to.

First, I had to recognize the wealth that I was already carrying; my expertise, my experience, my unique gifts, calling, and history.

Next, I looked for ways to crystallise that wealth in ways that can benefit others. The ability to digitize our value into publications, products, and platforms, is unprecedented in history. Never has it been easier to enter the knowledge marketplace and let your awesome shine.

Thirdly, there’s the important step of monetizing that inner wealth you have now shaped for sharing.

All three, in succession, open up possibility and lead to prosperity.

1. Know your value.
2. Shape your value in ways that can be shared.
3. Exchange all of that inner wealth for outer rewards.

I love what my friend Dan Woerheide says. When asked what he’s here on the planet to do, he simply replies, “I am here to help more people better”.

I can’t think of a more noble reason to pour your passion into discovering ways to live out this promise of wealth creation than helping more people in better ways. Lifting others and following the sage advice of motivational legend and Jesus follower, Zig Ziglar:

“You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.”

How can you help others get what they want? Aid them in their quest for significance?

Recognize the wealth that God has placed in others, and find more and better ways to draw that wealth out so they can make an impact, and your own will be multiplied many, many times over.
