It was quiet in my home when I rose today. A luminous quiet rested gently in the atmosphere. It was a timely reminder that the Kingdom I serve cannot be compared to the crazy kingdoms of this world.
Recently, I’ve found myself morbidly addicted to the news, waiting for the next bombshell to drop or scandal to break. This morning that cycle was mercifully interrupted by something far more powerful than any weapon on Earth.
The peace of God.
“It is finished!” was the starting gun for a whole new way of living.
“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” (John 19:30 KJV)
His ending was our beginning.
A life marked by peace, not posturing.
And today, as much as at any time in history, that peace must be vigorously defended.
With wars on every side and proud men swaggering on the world stage, it is tempting to be pulled into the arguments. But where we have no agency, arguments are vain.
Better to funnel those energies into prayer.
Because our fight is closer to home. A battle to reclaim and maintain our inner peace.
Follow the Master to the closet, and cry:
“Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared” (Hebrews 5:7 KJV)
Let tears wash your heart of offense.
Let streams on your cheeks cleanse your partisan spirit.
The Kingdom we serve is not of this world.
“Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight… but now is my kingdom not from hence.” (John 18:36 KJV)
To prayer friends.
Let your knees do the talking.
Let your posture be one of humility.
And may peace beyond reason rest upon you.
Selah.
