Each of my children have their own personality, their own unique leanings and ways of being. As a father I don’t approach them in the same exact way because each of them responds to different things. You are the child of your Heavenly Father. You may even be a father or mother yourself. He deals with you no differently than your best self would seek to deal with your kids. As an individual. A unique and very special expression of love and humanity.
Your prayer life is a reflection of this peculiar and precious relationship. It grows and blossoms in the closet as you draw close. Sure, your Father knows everything about you, but He still delights in the journey of discovery that you are taking together.
James teaches us to “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” (James 4:8 KJV)
Is it not exciting to know that the responsibility lies with you? You have been given the open invitation to initiate the conversation.
How nigh do you want to draw? There is no limit placed here, you can come as close as you want to.
This is also very revealing. We are as close to God as we want to be.
The fruit of your pursuit evidences your desire.
He has shown us the way and handed us the keys. He has placed his power in our hand to become all He has designed us to be, and to step fully into sonship. He has furnished us with promises for every area of living, here, now, and beyond the grave.
This meager world with its flaky rewards pales in the light of Jesus and all He offers to the hungry soul. No amount of money, fame, fortune, or freedom, can compare with the overwhelming joys of knowing the One who made you!
I think I have much to learn, so much more to discover. In a small way, I feel the same longings expressed by Paul in his letter to the Philippians. Here was a valiant man who understood true value.
“[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope] that if possible I may attain to the [spiritual and moral] resurrection [that lifts me] out from among the dead [even while in the body].” (Philippians 3:10-11 AMPLIFIED)
My prayer today is that your journey with Papa will be a blessed one, rich with revelation, and filled with laughter. That your heart, mind, and soul, will be moved to pursue Him ever more fervently. I pray that you will enjoy the endless pleasures of ever-deepening relationship with the Maker, and in every way, your life will be enriched beyond recognition because of your engagement with the eternal!
