There are essentially two components to making an idea a reality. With a clear understanding of these two essentials, the many other working parts become immensely more manageable.

Well, good day to all of you awesome people, all the millions who are tuning in for this live broadcast. Welcome. And I just want to let’s just begin today with prayer. Actually, I think that that would be probably the most most profitable place to begin. Father, we just thank you for your goodness. We thank you for your awesomeness. We thank you, God, that you are far bigger and that your plans are far greater than we even realise.
00:00:37.530]
And a lord, we just opened our hearts to you today in the name of Jesus to not only bring and not only give, but to receive from you. Today what I was sharing on the blog and here in the podcast. What I want to share about is the how or the who. Now, I’ve heard a number of different people talk about this. Notably, Dan Miller has spoken about it in his book, Who or How? I think the name of the book is a great book.
00:01:10.710]
If you’ve not read that yet. And Russell Brunson, I heard speak about who or how. And yeah, it’s just a really powerful concept that I think if we can grasp it in connection with our creative projects and the things that we are desiring to accomplish and the things that we’re desiring to do can make a huge difference. Because the honest truth is, I mean, as much as people might want to convince you that making on making money online is like dead simple, easy, press a few buttons and bang.
00:01:54.690]
The money just starts pouring in. It’s actually not that easy. I mean, it may be and there are easy ways to make money online and begin to build up a business online, etc. that, you know, it’s not there are kind of two sides to this lie. It’s really, really easy. And the other side of the lie at the other end of the spectrum is it’s really, really hard. And the truth lies somewhere in between because there are a number of different factors that really feed into becoming influential in a wide space and in the online space.
00:02:41.550]
And, you know, but and it does take patience really to achieve many of the results that we might set out and that we’re seeking. But I really want to encourage those of you who’ve already begun to make moves in this direction, don’t be discouraged, okay? Don’t give up. Don’t stop when you’re halfway there on the journey. Because the reality is, as we as we apply wisdom and as we apply patience to our creative endeavours and, you know, we allow feet to be foot put to our faith and acting on the ideas that we’ve got, if we’ll commit to that process, not for a quick win, but for the long term, where not only do we build a business, but we allow ourselves to be built in the process that we we really take a hold of new skills.
00:03:47.280]
We allow our mindset to change. We begin to understand the how this might work side of things. And then also what I want to talk about today is the who side of that. Now, there are two different components that I think if we can get these things in place, it can really help us to realise our vision. And now, number one is the one that most of us are very familiar with. And that is the how. You know, we have an idea.
00:04:22.830]
It may be big, it may be small. But the first question that many of us arrive at and you know, this may change as you begin to change your thinking. But the first question that we often ask, and I find myself asking it probably way too often is how can I achieve that? How can I do that? And for a lot of people, unfortunately, this is where the journey ends. They have an idea. They think, how do I do that?
00:04:50.940]
The answer is I don’t know how. And they then immediately disqualify themselves. Yeah. You know, others will take the. Bull by the horns and set themselves out to learn, they realised that their cause and their idea is notable and remarkable enough for them to invest time and money in educating themselves so they can answer that Howe question differently. But, you know, sometimes, you know, even when we put that work in, we don’t reap the rewards because really the question that we’re asking is the wrong one.
00:05:29.480]
I mean, I can like if if I pull an example from my kind of journey into the digital space and having ideas, realising those ideas in a way that will be helpful for other people, I had an idea for a WordPress plugin. Now, I have no comprehension whatsoever, even how to begin to code something. I’m just not that way wired. I don’t want to learn how to code. It’s just not in my wheelhouse at all. And I had an idea for a particular plug in that would accomplish a task for people without that, that potentially could be very profitable and helpful to them.
00:06:15.840]
But I didn’t know where to begin. The how question was a flat out no idea. But fortunately, I learnt that we can also ask another question. We can ask who. And in this respect, I asked, OK, I don’t know how, but who does who can help me realise this vision? I do the same in my fiction publishing. I don’t write fiction. I write non-fiction. You know, fiction just is not, again, my my main area of skill.
00:06:54.210]
I have worked on some books more in a kind of editorial developmental sense. But really I have an idea for a story. I have a number of who’s who know how to weave a wonderful story and make my ideas come alive. And I work with them. And so I ask the question, how do I do this? I don’t know. So who can do it for me? Who knows how? And reached out to some people through a website I use called Upwork.com.
00:07:28.350]
You could go there. You could if you’ve got an idea upwork.Com is a great place to find tremendous talent at a reasonable price. Who can help you make that idea come alive. And so I was able to produce and to package and to sell a WordPress plug in, even though I have no idea how. OK, and so the question we need to ask, when an idea drops into our heart and our mind, sometimes the WHO question might be helpful.
00:08:04.920]
It’s good to understand the workings of something in a reason to a reasonable degree. So when with the who in mind, you know, we learn the ropes, we understand some of the some of how something might work. But what we want to do is work towards having someone else do it for us, the who side of the question. And that way we can actually begin to build a business that is both profitable and scalable.
00:08:39.960]
It’s not just reliant on at the limits of our knowledge, the limits of our time, the limits of our finance. But we can step beyond those limits and begin to expand in ways that would otherwise be impossible and say, you know, the questions sometimes to ask is not how can I do this? When you get an idea, the question that you can ask is who can help me do this? And when you ask the who can help me do this question, although it may be humbling at times, you begin to step into a different arena and you begin to expand the boundaries and the borders of what’s possible.
00:09:25.920]
And then when you begin then when you step out on those ideas and realise that you can realise an idea without necessarily knowing how to do it yourself, you will suddenly step into a liberated space where your ideas are no longer dependent upon you alone. Yeah, you can become the idea generator and allow someone else to come. Alongside and actually help you to realise that idea in a tangible way, crystallise it into a publication, a product or a platform that can serve other people, and you then, rather than just being a worker in your own business, become the business owner. And so there are many, many different aspects to this online life and sharing our worth with others that you will find as you begin to step out.
00:10:33.550]
You know, it may be that you want to create some kind of product that you can give away to build an email list. You can have someone else help you create that and design that. Maybe someone like fiverr.com would be a great place to begin. Or you can purchase from who a certain kind of private label writes products or templates that you then just fill in the blanks on. And that can become something that you give away within your niche to begin to build an audience.
00:11:06.100]
There are a number of ways to do these things. You know, if you’ve got an idea for a book but have not had any clue how to even begin, you could reach out somewhere like Upwork.com and find someone who is willing to do that for a price that you can afford. You know, I said don’t discount your ideas simply because you don’t presently know how or maybe even will never know how to actually bring that idea to realisation.
00:11:37.510]
Now, sometimes it is worth educating yourself to a reasonable degree in the how, because that makes managing the who’s a great deal easier because, you know, some of the parameters and roadblocks and challenges that they might face and you can create kind of some operating practices that help them to bypass those. At other times, you know, your skill will simply be and completely be talent management, not talent acquisition. You don’t necessarily need to go out and acquire the talent.
00:12:14.170]
For me, for example, I did not need to go out and acquire the talent of excellent fiction storytelling in order for me to to manage these amazing writers and editors that I work with. My talent was more working with them and helping them to produce the best they can while I continue to do what I’m best at. Yeah. And so, you know, whatever whatever questions, whatever roadblocks stand in your way, either one of these will usually kind of empower you to overcome them.
00:12:57.340]
The who, there are always ways to sorry the how. There are always ways to learn how you know there is not you are not someone somewhere knows how to do it, which means you should you want to can learn how to do it also. And you know, if that is just like unreasonable, impractical or impossible, then you can then ask the WHO question. Now, in the early days, the how question may have the most weight, you know, because you may not have the resources necessarily to the same degree that allow you to lean into the how into the who.
00:13:42.850]
But as you move forward and as you develop and expand your business and your ability to generate and create value for other people and through that generate wealth, you’ll find that you move that that kind of needle moves across more to the who side of things. And you become then a team builder, someone who equips others to accomplish what they are on the planet to do. And so I just encourage you to ask those questions today. You know, if you maybe don’t know how to begin to step out on your ideas, maybe you’re asking the wrong question.
00:14:24.760]
Maybe you need to be asking who can help me to do this? Who can lead me, show me, demonstrate to me or who can do what it is I’m looking to accomplish. Now, if you jump over to my blog, just go to Davidleemartin.com and then just look for the blog post called The How or the Who. You can download a free, free little report that I produced several years ago. But it is a really amusing.
00:14:59.640]
Little booklet, it’ll take you a few minutes to read, it’s completely free, it’s called Five Mistakes I see people making when creating online products. I think you’ll really enjoy it. And it kind of dovetails into what I’ve been talking about today. Hopefully that helps someone. Hey, have a great day. God bless you. And thanks for tuning in. Well, thanks for listening. Hopefully it’s been an encouragement to you today. If you want to connect any further, you can do so through my website.
