I am a huge fan of the written word, as you probably know by now, and an absolute advocate of self publishing in a book buying and book reading habits have changed so dramatically over the past decade. Gone are the days where someone walks into a bookshop and judges a book by the thickness of its spine. Now they may still judge a book by its cover because that’s the first thing they see when they arrive in the store. But most often the store is online somewhere.

Namely, Amazon would be probably the granddaddy of that world and the behemoth of publishing and books. So, you know, whether your book is 45 pages or 450, it can be a life changer. Finding the right book and reading the right words can absolutely revolutionise your life. It doesn’t have to be some big, thick tome for it to have an impact. In fact, sometimes the shorter and more kind of concentrated words in a in a thinner book can actually impact us more because we actually read them.

But it’s not only reading habits that have changed. It’s not only book reading that has gone through this kind of a convulsion or revolution, whichever way you want to look at it. It’s actually the book writing and publishing revolution that has really precipitated this change that’s taking place. You know, you’re no longer stood in line waiting for someone to give you permission or give you the thumbs up. You can choose yourself and publish your book. Right, and publish your book freely to the biggest bookstore on the planet.

And there’s nothing stopping you do doing that right now. You know, technology is really overtaken traditionalism and a new era has dawned for anyone who wants to share their words and worth with the world. And so I just encourage you don’t sit back waiting for someone to discover you. Okay? Put your words out where people can find them, where people can read them. And to some degree, I mean, we’ve still got to kind of do some legwork, but let the discovery take care of itself.

My encouragement to you is to learn, well, the art of practising in public, in a killed perfectionism, in a blitz of creative courage, write and publish your book even with its imperfections, instead of thinking that we need to create the next great American novel or a 21st century classic, carve your way to a perennial bestseller with a small knife, one short book after another. In L.A., those smaller books are short books as milestones on the road to fulfilling your creative destiny.

Share the steps that you take to get there before you take an all of the steps. Invite people to walk the road with you and bring your wisdom to the table, you know, because your book is not about you. Ultimately, you know, you don’t want your reader to be impressed with you. You are not the hero. The hero’s journey that interests your reader is their own. And we want them to be impressed with themselves when they when they internalise what you teach, when they internalise what they read and apply it in their own life.
00:03:51.460]
That’s the hero’s journey that we’re talking about. You know, the reader is the hero of your story ultimately. And you act if you know, for want of a better picture, but you act as a muse for their dreams and their desires to become a bigger and better version of themselves. And I just encourage you don’t deprive the world of this indescribable gift. The Bible tells us that words are powerful. The scriptures say that in words, in three words we have and we release the power of life and death.

Proverbs eighteen, verse 21. The death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Your words, my dear friend, carry life pages today are panting thirsty for your wisdom. Pick up your pen, punch your keys and set those words free. Well, thanks for listening. Hopefully it’s been an encouragement to you today. If you want to connect any further, you can do so through my website.
